FDA to authorize Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for those aged 12-15 early next week

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is gearing up to provide authorization for Pfizer Inc and BioNTech SE’s COVID-19 vaccine for adolescents, 12 to 15 years of age, by early next week, reported the New York Times.

The drugmakers had stated in March that the vaccine was found to be safe and effective and yielded strong antibody responses in 12- to 15-year-old adolescents in a clinical trial. The vaccine is already approved in the United States for individuals aged 16 years and above. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Director, Rochelle Walensky, had stated in April that the vaccine could be approved by middle of May… (Reuters, May 4, 2021)
